Biography

I'm originally from southern Arizona. My first introduction to geography was while taking a 100-level geography course at a community college to get my science credit out of the way. Six years later and I'm pursuing a Ph.D in it. Being from the Sonoran Desert, geography shaped my life; I just didn't appreciate it yet. The same goes for sports, which has been an ever-present source of leisure, stress, bonding, fear, elation, and community for me. As I progressed through college, university, and graduate school, I realized my passion for sport geography, learning, teaching, and catered lunches. That, combined with the help and guidance of many mentors, loved ones, and ancestors throughout the years has led me to this point.

In life, I want to be an educator and researcher, and work as a consultant to help municipalities implement sport development projects while preserving residential communities and local businesses that might be negatively impacted by the project.

Extracurricular interests

I'm a really big sports fan, of course. I follow MLB, NHL, and motorsports, mostly Formula 1, World Rally Championship, Indy Car, and, on occasion, NASCAR.

In my spare time, I love to hike, play video games, read, and work on my car. I speak, read, and write Czech at an intermediate level, and use that power only for evil. Hermanos Gutiérrez make some of the best music in the entire world.

My greatest fear is opening those biscuit canisters and my greatest dream is to be able to pass on my best experiences in education to everyone I can.
